ALL ABOUT WHISKY
Whisky is one of the most popular drinks in the world.
Its artisanal elaboration it’s hard to track down. However, historians have find texts that date from the XV century, when Scottish and Irish monks distilled fermented malt from cereals such as barley, rye, wheat and corn to, subsequently, age it in wooden barrels, traditionally made from white oak.
Over the years it became a popular liquor amongst population. And, like many other creations, people found variations that adapted the original product to their taste and necessities.
Malt whisky is elaborated from malted cereals and distilled in copper alembics, while grain whisky is elaborated from unmalted cereal and distilled in coffey stills. There is also a blended variety of whisky that combines the previous ones.
It is believed that origins of the word “Whiskey” (used by the Irish, establishing the difference between Irish and Scottish Whisky) date back to King’s Henry II soldiers, who invaded Ireland in the XII century, and coined the term from the Irish words “Uisce Beatha”, which translate to water of life.
Nowadays, whisky is elaborated and commercialized all around the world, being a distinguished yet classic and comfortable drink.
